Random Thoughts On Recruiting – Summer Doldrums

Today was a slow day.  While we’ve had a good year, June was a slow month too.  So today had me feeling like we were in the summer doldrums (Dictionary.com definition: a state of inactivity or stagnation, as in business or art: August is a time of doldrums for many enterprises.)  So I thought I would look back and see how we’ve done in previous summer months.

What I found is that we have had slow months in June and July combined, compared to other two month periods, every year in the past.  Contrary to the example in the definition above, August has been really strong for us in the past.  I wouldn’t want to put much weight on this, but I’m a big believer in the fact that numbers don’t lie and every year says a lot.  So maybe there is a natural bit of slowing in summer months.  I hope so.  Coming off the last couple of years it is hard to be confident that it is only a summer slowdown.

We’ll see.  The numbers also tell us that business has been decent and consistent all year to this point.  All we can do is all we can do.  I’m looking forward to seeing how this plays out over the next month or two.
