Random Thoughts On Recruiting – You Win Some, You Lose Some

Well today we had a placement and we had a placement from last month fall apart as the candidate decided to quit.  It’s like kissing your sister, or treading water, or something like that.  Sometimes this business can be really frustrating.

Once we get through the disappointment of the lost deal, it’s clear that the world is right and the right things are happening.  Once again, if we keep an “it’s just business” attitude, we realize that this is the case and handle things appropriately.  The candidate quit because the hours were just not going to work for them the way they thought they would.  Okay, it’s her life and if it doesn’t work then it doesn’t work, and she shouldn’t be there.  For the client, there is a better fit.  So we’ll try to help find that better fit.  We hate to lose the fee, but it’s all about finding the right people for our clients and the right jobs for the candidates.

On the other deal, we have a happy client with the right new employee.  We have a happy candidate with the right new job and we’re getting paid.  In both situations the right things are happening and, in the end, that’s what it’s all about.

Wow that’s really frustrating but then again we know its the nature of the business and these things happen. The best thing we can do is pick up the pieces and move on to the next candidate and get that job filled.

Sorry you lost a candidate..but hopefully the job can get filled quickly so there isn’t too much of a gap between the candidate leaving and transitioning a new person.
