Random Thoughts On Recruiting – Respect

I was thinking today about building strong relationships with clients and with business partners and what the most important factors are in doing that.  I’m not up for making a laundry list of all we have to do to build strong relationships, but the first thing that comes to mind for me is Respect.

I read a blog the other day by a coporporate recruiter who had the experience of an agency recruiter going around them, after they were specifically told not to.  Not much respect there and not much chance for that agency recruiter to build a good relationship with that client.  From my perspective, if you want to build strong relationships you have to display great respect for those you want to build the relationships with.  That means respecting their time, being prompt and informative, and looking at things from their perspective so you can understand what they need.

This business is challenging and tremendously rewarding.  One of the biggest reasons for this is the seemingly unlimited amount of relationships you get to build, and need to build in order to be successful.  I’m having a lot of fun with that part of it lately and with relationships that are at various stages.
