Random Thoughts On Recruiting – Bad Jobs Report Means MOTS

There is some talk out there today about the bad jobs report meaning we have a slowdown coming in the 2nd half, or worse.  I don’t buy it.  Things are already slow.  Companies in many industries, including recruiting, are doing business.  However, nothing about the pace of business this year has been strong.

We’re not in a normal recession / recovery cycle.  I love this “summer of recovery” garbage we hear from the administration.  We’re in the post bubble world and this is going to take a long time to work through.  Business is better now, and has been all year, than it was while going through the bursting of the bubble in ’08 and ’09.  But things are different now.  While things will slow and ramp up at various times going forward, everything is really muted.  So a slowdown from here is not going to hurt much.

Everyone running companies and divisions of companies now, went through the bursting of the bubble so they are not going to be shocked with a little slowdown from here.  The shock of the bubble burst is what made things so bad.  That part is over.  So maybe we have a little slowdown coming and maybe we don’t.  Regardless, I’m convinced we are in for More Of The Same, and that’s not so bad.
