Random Thoughts On Recruiting – How To Get Back To The ’07 Levels

Okay, it’s stat time.  I heard one this morning that I like.  In order to get back to the ’07 levels, we need to create 11 million more jobs.  That’s not “create or save” or “lives touched”.  We need 11 million more jobs than we have in this country now without losing any to get back to the same level we were at a couple of years ago.

Let’s put that in perspective.  There are just over 100 million households total in the country.  There are somewhere around 7 million businesses in the country.  That is a couple years old so we could have 5 or 6 million businesses now, for all I know.  Regardless of that, think of every single business you know of making another couple hires.  No matter how small or established, and of course if any business goes under, we need to replace those as well.

This is how much smaller our market is now than it was a couple of years ago.  No matter how you look at it, taking 11 million jobs out of the market is a real big game changer.  I think it is good to understand the market and what has changed.  It’s a different world now for those of us in recruiting, but our industry has rapidly changed along with the circumstances.  Those doing well under the current conditions are in a fantastic position going forward.
