Random Thoughts On Recruiting – Weekly Recap

Well this was a fairly slow week.  Fitting, I guess, as it was much like the third quarter in general.  There is business out there, but things felt better in the spring than they did in the third quarter.

So now we head to a new quarter.  For us, looking at business quarterly seems to give a more consistent and real picture of what is going on.  There are times that I wish we could measure things daily, like a restaurant looking at daily receipts, but the measurement over a quarter seems to be a better indicator.  With that in mind, I’m excited about a new quarter and the possibilities there.  Coming into each quarter this year I felt we had a good chance to do record numbers.  Even though things have been a little slower lately, I feel the same now.

There are enough good positions and enough good candidates in the pipeline that I believe a record quarter is a fair possibility.  We’ll see how it plays out.  The basic business continues to get stronger even though generally difficult business conditions seem to be keeping us in check.

We have decent sales and engineering positions and still some decent healthcare positions.  We’ve seen new job orders in healthcare, agriculture, and material handling lateley.  We continue to hear clients and prospective clients in many industries saying things are not strong enough to hire or grow.  We’ll know in a heartbeat when this is starting to turn, but it’s not turning yet.  Still, we are doing business in this environment so we know that we can continue until things ease.
