Random Thoughts On Recruiting – Marching In The Right Direction

Like most other businesses, coming out of the big downturn or bubble burst, we are not quite at the level we want to be at with our business.  But we are headed in the right direction and I suspect most of those in recruiting are in a similar place.

It is possible that I am the type that will always be reaching for more.  However, at this point we see everything we need to see in a growing business and it is all headed in the right direction.  We see more job flow and good solid job orders to work on where there is a real need for outside help.  That is a real key and that was missing in ’08 and ’09 and was not as strong as it is now in ’10.  In addition to that, the ability for our partners to find good candidates that our clients are not able to find is clearly there and it is getting stronger.  It appears that the reach gap between clients and outside recruiters is widening.

This tells me that the future for third party recruiting is really great.  Remember when job boards first came around and some had the thought that this would end third party recruiting?  Now the tools have evolved further and clients have definitely expanded their reach to be able to find the right candidate.  But the third party recruiter reach has expanded by far more with these tools.  What this creates is a situation where searches are clearly able to be filled in house and others that clearly have to go outside, but a greater ability for them to be filled.  This is all good.

The economy is not great and there is probably a long road ahead there.  However, things are not the same as they were immediately after the bubble burst, they are a little better than that.  So there are companies that want to grow and improve and there are strong needs for third party recruiting.  As we continue to march down this road, we are definitely headed in the right direction.
