Gotta Be Willing To Walk Away

My wife just bought a car.  We did it the new world way.  First of all, I did not help.  She negotiated and worked the deal on her own and over e-mail and phone.

Several times in the process I told her that she has to be willing to walk away.  Even now, we’ll go to pick it up Saturday and if it doesn’t test drive well, she has to be willing to walk.  That’s a tough thing until you learn how to do it.  The one who is willing to walk away is always the best negotiator.

We’re going through some tight negotiations on placements right now, as usual.  I can see the stress in some of the parties involved.  It happens all the time, but the key to negotiating never changes.  You gotta be willing to walk.
