Bells, Whistles, and Video Resumes

December 5, 2011 Leave a comment Go to comments

I saw a neat service that a new company provides for online portfolios.  The purpose is for creative types to be able to display their work online.  Good idea.  It was touted as a sort of resume extension or replacement for candidates in creative fields or others that would need to show their work in depth.

There are also video resumes out there and plenty of claims that the old resume is on the way out.  But here’s the thing.  Hiring managers don’t want to spend a lot of time reading or fishing through an online site.  They want to know quickly and easily if they may have the right candidate.

So while the online portfolio may have some value further on in the process for certain types of positions, the resume still does what hiring managers want initially, and a lot more efficiently.  A good clean clear resume is a valuable thing for any candidate and the resume is going to be around in this basic form for a long time to come.
