Crowded Field?

I read this the other day:

In February, there were 31,500 workers employed by search firms. That’s 700 more than the average for all of last year.

The same piece said that there are more people employed at executive search firms now than at any time in the last 10 years. Hard to believe. The field does not seem that crowded. In 2008 and especially 2009 you could feel the air coming out of the industry. People were leaving and you could see it clearly.

For the last year or two it has felt like a slimmer and more efficient industry. From my perspective it still feels that way. And that’s a good thing.
