Realistic Optimism

I love that term. In recruiting it means expecting to make placements, but knowing you won’t make them all. It also means expecting that placements will fall through, but knowing you will make your fair share.

It cuts both ways. Reality is not as great as we typically dream it to be. It’s also not bad as we think it will be when things don’t go our way or a deal falls through. In recruiting, if you do good work, things work out. More good work, more good things. It’s best to be optimistic and real.
