Attention Capacity

Recruiting on social media is still a lot like walking around in the dark. It certainly makes sense that social media increases reach for those who use it to recruit. But how much?

A big part of the equation that seems to get ignored is the capacity for attention that any given candidate has. You may have a Facebook account, but rarely spend any time on it or you may only browse and never engage. Most people are not in the social media business, so how much of their lives and attention are they going to spend on social media? How many different social media outlets are they willing to engage with?

We only have so much attention, and only so much motivation to spend it on the new communication tools. With more tools out there and more coming all the time, it seems like the process of reaching and engaging candidates is getting more complex, not less.
