Recruiting, A leading Indicator?

Recruiting is a leading indicator, right? That’s what someone brought up in a conversation recently and I’ve heard that before.

It makes sense that it would be, but I’m not so sure. The Great Recession supposedly started in the 4th quarter of ’07, but our business was still strong then and didn’t crater until ’08 along with everyone else. Did we come out of it faster? Recruiting picked up in 2010 so I’m not so sure we were ahead then either, but business has continued to strengthen and we hear about very slow growth out there so maybe there is something to it.

The important thing is that it doesn’t matter. Business is business and nobody really cares what leads and what lags, just that business flows.
