Some people do it and some don’t. The important thing is to be able to recognize it and flush it out.

There is nothing wrong with trying to set-up a negotiation in your favor, as long as you can do it tactfully and keep the deal that you want available. Of course it is just as important to recognize what may be posturing on the other party’s part and to tactfully flush that out and get to the real numbers. Honesty and Tact help a lot.
