Real Artists Ship

December 21, 2012 Leave a comment Go to comments

This is a famous Steve Jobs quote referring to getting a product shipped as opposed to delaying it to make it perfect.

In recruiting, internal or external, shipping is presenting or submitting your candidate. Of course, shipping crap is shipping crap, and that’s not what Jobs was suggesting. But you get to a point where you have a very good product and you can delay forever looking for perfection. Then nobody gets to experience your great product.

If your candidate is strong enough that he or she may be the hire that the manager is looking for, you have to ship. If they can’t be the hire, you never ship. It’s that simple.
