Attention Trumps Connection

February 18, 2013 Leave a comment Go to comments

We are definitely a more connected society than we used to be and we’ll continue to be more connected in more ways as we go forward.

But connection is not nearly as important as attention. I can be connected with you on LinkedIn or Facebook or any number of other networks, but if I can’t get your attention it doesn’t do much good. As a recruiter, I can reach out through our connection, but if you don’t see it or don’t choose to respond then nothing happens. Yet a recruiter who is not connected to you in any way can place an ad and, if you respond, he has your attention and now the real connection happens.
