Feeling Special

February 19, 2013 Leave a comment Go to comments

Having dinner with my eight year old son yesterday after his pinewood derby car failed to place and didn’t win anything, we talked about the race and the experience. Last year he won a trophy, so I asked him if his life was better because he won that trophy.

I expected the answer to be no. I know he doesn’t know where the trophy is. But he said yes. So I asked him why. He said it made him feel special. No tears, no big deal, just an understanding that winning made him feel special. When a candidate gets the offer they feel special. When your offer is accepted by your top candidate you feel special.

Maturity and experience help us all to look beyond that when it doesn’t work out, but we should all understand that deep down that feeling is there and everyone wants to feel special.
