Specialized Reach

Someone suggested to me recently that they needed a recruiter who specializes in their industry in order to fill their position.

Specialization can increase reach. If a recruiter puts all of their efforts into one small niche they will have greater reach in that niche than if they didn’t. But that additional reach is minuscule when compared to the overall potential for additional reach. The greatest additional reach is achieved by effort. The more effort put into expanding reach, the greater the reach. Diverse methods of recruiting also have a huge impact.

If your position is tough to fill, having some specialization is nice but not at the expense of all of the other things that can be done.
