Shrinking Overall Pool

January 17, 2014 Leave a comment Go to comments

The unemployment rate has been trending down and is now at about 6.7 percent. However, if you include the labor participation numbers (taking out those who drop out of the work force or stop trying to find work) the number is steady at about 10.8 percent.

The reason the participation rate is dropping is that the candidates dropping out don’t have desirable skills. If these trends remain in place, the overall pool of desirable candidates will continue to shrink, especially if you consider only those open to a change.
